Look, Ma, Peter Pan.

There are several books that I love for tiny little things, like this Reader's Digest publication at home called Facts at your Fingertips. Beyond cool, the book is, waay beyond cool. Apart from imparting completely irrelevant information about life, the universe and beyond, it has photographs that merit a good, long stare in their own right. Like the one about the digestive system of a tarantula. However, by and large, this is my favourite photo in the book:

Look, it's smiling!

The caption beneath it says:
Giant Tadpole.
The pale pink axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) never really grows up. It acquires four legs and can breed, but remains water based, never losing its gills. Few survive in the wild today. Their only natural habitat is in lakes around Mexico City.

Now what kind of a scientififc name is that? Pheh. Some people just do not know how to name things (and people). Many hospitals with complicated multi-syllabic names on their birth registers are witness to that. Anukeertana for a baby, I ask you. Anyway, I digress. Since it seems to me the Giant Tadpole's name somewhat belies its chubby happy nature, I shall petition for a renaming, something on the lines of lafsalotl. That is all.

Everytime I look at this picture it makes me absurdly happy. Someone, anyone, please fund my journey to Mexico so that I can see one of these before it's too late? I'll bake you cakes even.

14 have survived.:

Haha, did you see what our dear CM named some kid (apparently in a bid for more votes?) some horribly long name, meaning sunrise. :D

The picture is terribly cute though.
